PEEPS INTO THE PAST
The following interesung paragraphs have been taken from old tiles of the "Waini Daily Telegraph":— EXPERIENCE IN A COACH Tuesday, June 20, 1905. —The passengers by coach from Tauranga yesterday had rather an exciting experience. The coach contained its full complement, there being seven occupants, including three or four ladies. They had accomplished about three miles of the journey from Katikati when they ploughed into some very heavy road, and without warning the wheels on one side sank axle-deep into the mud, tilting the caoch to such an angle that the occupants were all pitched out. One unfortunate occupant received a blow in the face from a trotter of a carcase of a weighty porker, which came tumbling down on top of him. Unable to move the coach from its bed of mud, the driver hied away to Katikati for another vehicle. One of the passengers produced a pack of cards, and utilising a box as a table, four of them whiled away the time with a game of euchre. The passengers ultimately reached Waihi about halfpast five o'clock, about an hour and a-half behind the usual time.
FITZGERALD FAMILY ARRIVES IN WAIHI Monday, June 19, 1905. —Mr and Mrs W. C. Fitz Gerald and family arrived in Waihi from Wanganui on Saturday, and have taken up their residence in Kensington Road, off Moresby Avenue. We understand that Mr Fitz Gerald has purchased the well-known pharmacy in the town so successfully established by Mr William Robins, pharmaceutical chemist, of which he takes possession in the course of a day or two. A building will be erected by Mr Fitz Gerald immediately for his business requirements, in the vacant corner site in Main Street, known as "Donnelly's corner." Mr F. M. Haszard has the plans well in hand. Mr Fitz Gerald's twenty-five years' experience in the Empire City and in Wanganui, as a pharmaceutical chemist, public vaccinator and surgeon dentist should bo sufficient guarantee of his being able to successfully conduct a pharmacy in our rapidly expanding town.
