KING CAROL'S COUP

.HITLER'S INTENSE DISPLEASURE! EYES ON OIL DEPOSITS. INFLUENCE OF MADAM LUPESCU. Australian and N.2. Cabi<*. LONDON, April, 21. The interesting situation developing in Rumania, the sequel to King Carol's coup against the Iron Guard, is being watched closely throughout the whole of Europe.

The King for the moment has isolated Rumania from German influence to Ilerr Hitler's intense displeasure. ft appears that Madame Lupescu, Carol's Jewish favourite, who is frantically anti-Nazi, has directed Carol toward Britain and France, who are interested in Rumania's vast oil deposits, on which Ilerr Hitler has Ion? cast envious eyes. It is generally overlooked, however, that Rumania possesses a German minority of 750,000, in addition to 1,250,000 Hungarians loyal to Ilerr Hitler, providing ample scope formidably to respond to inspiration ' from Berlin.

A London message says that though the urgency of France's need of a rearmament loan is admitted, the City is doubtful whether it could bo floated successfully at present. The Belgian loan, floated in December, was left to the underwriters, though it was only £5,000,000. France will undoubtedly require many times that amount. The figure of £312,000,000 is regarded as out of the question.
