OPENING MATCHES ON SATURDAY

FIVE CLUBS REGISTERED

Waihi will commence its Rugby football season on Saturday next. Five senior and six junior teams have entered for the cup competitions and a keen spirit is evident among the players—more so than has been the case in previous years—so (hat this season should provide some good exhibitions of the code. In addition Jo the older clubs, Athletic, Mataura, Waikino and Katikati, there is a new competitor in the lists, the vent Old Boys’ Club, which has been! formed to enable many players who would otherwise have had to stand on the line to take part in the games. For the opening matches the Mataura and Athletic clubs’ fifteens will meet on the local Recreation Ground, the juniors at 2 o’clock and the seniors at 3 o’clock. The Convent Old Boys (both juniors and seniors) will meet Waikino, at the latter township, and the Katikati juniors will play a home match with the Athletic B (Plains) juniors, the Katikati senior fifteen having a bye.
