WAIHI CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP I* FOURTH ROUND OPENED MARTHA TEAM’S GOOD SCORE Big scoring marked the opening of the fourth round for the Ellerington Challenge Shield between Martha and Mataura on Saturday afternoon. Batting first, Martha put on a total of 191. The feature of the innings was the free hitting by E. Saunders, who ran up 73 (not out)in quick time. His score included eleven boundaries —three sixers. Wotherspoon (39) ■—six boundaries, Dutton (28), and Teesdale (14) also played good cricket. ' Mataura, playing six men, which Included but four of its older members, had exhausted its resources befort time was called, having five wickets down for the small score of 17. The opposing captain, however, showed a commendable sporting spirit in agreeing that the absentees should have the opportunity of completing the innings next Saturday. VISITING TEAMS The Paeroa Y.M.C.C. has advised -the Waihi Cricket Association that, il will return match at Waihi on Saturday next, arriving about :2 p.m. The Waihi team will be published in-Thursday’s issue. The Bonsonby club has written in •connection with the annual fixture to be played at Waihi on Easter Saturday and Monday, 19 th and 21st April. A meeting of the executive of the Waihi Cricket Association will be lield at Mr Worthington’s rooms this evening at 8 o’clock.
