THIRD ROUND OP AMATEUR CONTEST MORPETH WINS HIS GAME By Telegraph-—Press Association WANGANUI, this day. In the third round of the amateur championship Sime beat Ward 3 and 1, J. Black beat Ekstedt G and 5, Morpeth beat MacFarlane 9 and 7 and Cathro beat Smith 10 and S. All the matches except the first were runaway games. Ward played a. plucky game against- Sime, but luck was with the latter, who holed tworemarkably long putts. Ward is. only 19 years of age and is a promising player. In the professional championship Shaw beat C. Clements 4 and '3 and Miss beat Douglas 1 up. The, latter was the best game of the day. Moss, won through what is regarded as a. mistake by Douglas in taking his. putter when about 18 inches off the green.
