RETROSPECTIVE allowances, WARRANTS FOR' PAYMENT ISSUED, ißy Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Defence Department has commenced the issue of warrants for payment of retrospective marriage allowances. These warrants number 5123, and represent a total payment of £191,468-. An analysis of individual payments shows that wives or the guardians of motherless children of men who went away with .the main body will draw the sum of £132. A large number of applications for payment have already been received by the officer in charge of the war expenses. There is a large issue of warrants lor the sum of £Bl 16s, which is payable in respect of men who embarked on October 6th, 1915. The wives cf those who embarked a year later draw a little oyer £44, and as the date of embarkation comes nearer to tho 31st December, 1917 when the allowance vas made up to 3s per day, the warrants correspondingly decrease in amount. The largest sums paid out are to wives of lieutenants who embarked with tho Mam Body., as tiese did not draw any allowance in the ordinary course until January Ist, 1918.
