HANDLING BOLSHEVISTS
FORCED TO KISS THE FLAG. Rioting in which approximately 2000 returned soldiers and an equal number o: civilians participated occurred recently at Winnipeg, Canada. Two hails frequented by ai’.ien enemies and Bolsheviks were wrecked, a number of stores kept by aliens were sacked, and upwards of 20 alien enemies were severely handled by the rioter.-.. Garrison troops wore called out at night to quell the disturbance. The police station Was picketed, (while several! thousand people assembled in the market square. The trouble arose over the annoniuod intention of Socialists and Bolsheviks to hold/a service for Karl Liebkneeht and Rosa Luxemburg in a local theatre. The meeting did not materialise, and the soldiers and their sympathisers proceeded to the market square where a number of Bolshevist agitators were located ami soundly chastised. T'rom this point a detail went to the Noith End and raided an Autsro-Hunguriau club, damaging the- promises. An alleged Bolshevist meeting place in the centre of the city was aflso attacked. Alien enemies were picked up all along the route and forced to kiss the British flag. Where they demurred they were roundly drubbed and forced t • yield. The entire police force was called out for riot duty, with the soldiers from the garrison battalion. The police were wholly ineffective during the afternoon to cope with the situation. One alien is under arrest.
