BOROUGH ELECTIONS

THE POLLING STEADY STREAM OF VOTERS. KEEN INTEREST SHOWN. To-day the borough elections are taking place in ideal weather. Polls of the local burgesses on four issues is being conducted at the Aliners’ Union Hall, Presbyterian Hal! (East End), and the Waihi Hospital. The issues are the Mayoralty, for which three candidates are in the field, Messrs Dawson Donaldson (sitting Mayor), Evan Morgan, and John Irvine; Borough Councillors, lor which there are 22 contestants; Hie Waihi Hospital and Charitable Aid Board., in the contest for which 13 names appear on the ballot papers; and the poll in connection with the statutory weekly half-holiday, in which the electors are to record their votes in favour of Wednesday or Saturday respectively. A steady stream of voters set in at the central booth at an early hour this morning, and the indication is that an unusually largo vote of the electors will be recorded. Keen interest is being taken on all sides, and the supporters ol the various "tickets” are very much )in evidence in the main street; init | while enthusiasm is apparent, the proceedings are being conducted with the utmost orderliness.
