The funeral of the late Mr. Frank Allen took place yesterday, and was hugely attended by the general public, the local Oddfellows being well represented. The Rev. J, Milne conducted the burial servico, whilo tho last rites of Oddlellowship were read by P.S. l)ro. John Rowe, of tho Loyal Wnikato Lodge. The Minister for Mines (the Hon. It. McKcnsiic) with his private secretary, Mr. Chas. E. Matthews, is expected to arrive at Thames about the 23rd inst, It is stated that two councillors will conti.it tho Mayoralty, while already "tickets" are being suggested for the licensing election. Good progress is being made with the erection of the new police station. The foundations have been completed, and as soon as the necessary time ban elapsed for them to properly complete the work, the erection of tho main building will be proceeded with, One of tho Waiugunguru island*, a delta in the Ohinciiiuri River, at Mackaytown, containing a largo quantity of tailings accumulated during the early days of the field, has been purchased by a l'acroa syndicate from the natives.
