Tim first, year of tho City Council's control of the electric light works, which were taken over at a cost of £165,871, has resulted, after paying .interest and linking fund (£9475), and allowing £5297 for depreciation, in a profit of £0122, besidse which the price to the public lias been reduced, and tlio city lighting costs much less. Tho business is increasing so'fast that the works will have to be largely extended.
