The Auckland manager of the Le.vlandO'Brien Timber Company is in receipt of information from AVhitianga, stating that all tho logs which were adrift at that place have now been secured. The horses in a cab belonging to Andrew and Wise, and driven by James Arid, started at a gallop, careering down Victoria-street, and continued up the western end of Victoria-street. The runaways were caught on the rise, however, tho breaking of an axle facilitating tho capture. The driver. who was thrown from tho box, escaped with nil injured arm.

Tho Nowmarket Borough Council at their meeting received a suggestion from tho Auckland Fire Underwriters' Association regarding a schemo for averting tho danger of fire by live wires fallingon tlio roofs of buildings, by the erection of-woll earthed cradle wires, placed, below all live wires running in close proximity to verandahs or other structures. Auckland some months ago on a trip through China ami Siberia, iravelling through the hitter .country by way of tlie Trans-Siberian railway,, has sent a postcard to a friend in Auckland, dated Omsk, Siberia, August 1. Mr, Patterson stated that he was then on his way hack through Siberia, en route for New Zealand.
