Mr. Atherley Jones intended to move the rejection 0{ the Bill, but recognising the unpopularity of this step tho Opposition announced thai; it would be content to malto tho amendmentin committee. Sir Charles Dilke's Amendment declared that the evils of low-priced alien labour would bo best met by legislation provonting sweating, Mr. Chamberlain supported the Bill, He said it was the first atop towards tho limitation of the system of unrestricted free imports.
