At tho Magistrate's Court, before Mr W>ay, 8.M., the Timara Brewery Company was charged with a breach of th ( , Alcoholic Liquors S»]o Control Aot, 1895 The information wits laid nndor section 38, clause 1 e, which deals with the illegality of Bonding into a no-lioenso district liquor whioh may be intended for sale. The cmo aroso out of recent proceedings against a man named Williams, who., wa« fined £2O for keeping liquor lor sale. About eightoen gallons a weeL had been supplied to Williams for a period of from two to threo months, The defence was ; that the company understood Williams to be a carrier, and that tboro was no reason in suppose ho was getting liquor for sale, The Crown Proseoutor, Mr. Stringer, held that it was ft careless procoediug to supply largo quantities of liquor to an unknown man. It was defendant's duty to have made inquiries, It had been shown thnt practically no inquiries had boon made. In giving judgmont the Magistrate said that the quantity of liquor supplied wasa factor in tho case, but unless the brewet knew the ciicimistinoes of the man to whom liquor the was supplied, tho amount supplied would causa no suspicion.
