A fine of J6IOO and costs was inflicted in tho Police Court upon Percy Arthur Hadley, of Auckland, machinery mcr chant, who is now a bankrupt. (hat the invoico for machinery imported was presented by Hudloy, alleging the value as £651; but sinco ho became bankrupt the Official Assignee had ascertained from documents that the goods were actually valued at j0835. An elaborate system ot evasion of tho Customs dutios had been carried out by accusod, Hadloy's solicitor stated that ho was laid up when tho invoices wero presented, but ho did not blame the clerks,
