NEW SOUTH WELSHMEN’S VICTORY.
A TRIUMPH FOB GREGORY*
FAILURE OP ENGLISH BOWLING. Received Nov. 23, 12.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Nov. 23. Critics who up to yesterday were doleful are now overflowing with jubilation $t the result of the match. Praise of the splendid partnership of Collins and Macartney ie mingled with surprise at the failure of the English bowling, all possibles being tried out and proving equally ineffective. One conclusion reached is that the test team must comprise a goodly sprinkling of New South Welshmen.
The Telegraph says the match was largely Gregory’s. He did all big things except score a century. Ho bowled the first ball, and 'mad© the top score in the first innings. In each innings he captured the howling average, and made the winning hit. The scene on the ground was remarkable. The attendance at the start was small, but as it became known that the local men were establishing a winning position the crowd rapidly swelled. The excitement throughout was keen, and towards the close became tremendous.
