ELEVEN OFFICERS SHOT DEAD

' Ten or twelve officers oi% ex-officers living out of barracks, were shot dead in Dublin this morning. Two were killed at Gresham Hotel, Captain Newberry was shot dead at his residence. Lower Bagot Street, three were shot in Morehampton Road. Later, advices state that .eleven were killed, including Captains McLean, FitzGerald, and McCormick, and five wounded, including civilians. . , " The fact that the police and military have begun raids throughout Dublin, and are holding up motor cars and motor cyclists, causes grave fears that this morning’s murders will proVoke serious reprisals to-night. - The Galway County Council's resolution against the Bail Eireann instructed the gate collector to place all moneys to the credit of a legally appointed treasurer in the National Bank.

The authorities state that raids in Dublin began on Saturday with visits to one or two - factories, leading up ,to several arrests, •

Republican volunteers, operating on the .southern side of the city, fiercely attacked the “black and tans” this morning. The victims of the Morehampton Road shooting were suspected of being secret service men, and were Silled in their beds.

While shooting was in progress in Mount Street, where two ex-officers were killed, a lorry load of Tblack*and tans” who were passing heard cries fon help. A fierce battle with Republican volunteers followed, two “black, and tans” being killed and several volunteers wounded.
