OPENING SPLASH. <■
Tlis opening splash of the swimming season was held at the Town Baths on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Wanganui and , Central Clubs. There was a fair attendance. Mr W, A. ,'{ ’tch, M.P., made a short but interesting speech. Congratulating the Wanganui clubs on the success achieved in the swimming world despite disabilities resulting from the absence of tepid baths. It must be exasperating to the local officials to find that their swimming season has been hold up owing to cold and boisterous weather, while the other, centres of the Dominion had been holding "swimming carnivals for •weeks past in preparation for the championships. early next year. Wanganui swimmers were .obviously .at a great disadvantage, but he was sure that, with the material in view, Wanganui's representation would be good. Tepid baths , were certainly required. in the town,' and would prove a valuable asset in improving the health and physique of future generations. He was certain that the enthusiasm of the local Swimming Centre would prevail,. and that before many years went by thoroughly modern baths would be erected. Mr, ' titch congratulated the clubs upon the success already achieved, and wished them a very enjoyable and profitable swimming season. . (Applause.) "Results: Opening Splash.—E.
