HALF-DAY PARADES.
Sir, —Your corespondent “Terrier” merits the thanks of numerous downtrodden individuals who have to don uncomfortable khaki on an afternoon when the river, the cricket . field, or the tennis courts might be giving physical benefit to Wanganui’s manhood. “Terrier” has voiced a general complaint. As a personal sufferer I can endorse . his statements. When all things are considered, Saturday parades—and night parades too—are absolutely farcical, and I have not yet met any of the rank and file- who take them seriously. ' The officers do their best, I will admit, but when their companies are sweltering in body and mind it is utterly impossible to get results.. Far more good would be doneby the annual'camp scheme. If, however, that is out of the question, the authorities should attempt to get the half-day parades on days when healthy sport w r ill not -be interfered with. Otherwise these irksome- and useless half days amount to a system of petty tyranny.—l am, etc., DOT—DOT—DASH.”
