INDECENT PICTURES.
With a view of preventing .the exposure of-indecent pictures, Mr/E. A. Wright Suburbs) is asking ihe Minister of-Justice if he will-pro. mote legislation making it unlawful to exhibit to public view in any shop' or, uublb place within the meaning of the Police Offences Act. 1903, section 28, any document, sign, picture, illustration or* representation which- the inspector in charge of a police district deems unfit for exhibition. £2) Whether he will in the' proposed legislation enact that every person- who after being warned by riie police officer commits an- offence under the Act shall be liable to a fine of ioO or three months’ imprisonment? Mr Wright states that if the police arc- armed with this power it will have a wholesome effect and assist, people who are sometimes in doubt as. to whether a picture is indecent or otherwise. When it became necessary to . warn a person, the police officer should do so verbally or by registered letter.
