NEW SOUTH WALES TRY OUT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, SYDNEY, Oct. 31. The try-out cricket match concluded. Collins’ team made 224—Oldfield 76, Taylor not out 126. Hendry took four wickets for 81, Dr Trenerry 4 for 66, Asher 2 for 29, Macartney’s team scored 268—Macartney 63, Andrews 77, iW. Trennery 26. Gregory took 3 wickets for 60, and Mailey 3 for- 65.' VICTORIA v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, Oct. 31. South Australia’s first innings realised 290—Steele 63, Whitty-81. Ryder took four wickets for 68 and Armstrong 4 for 60. Victoria has lost four wickets for 383—Mayne 42, Parle 152, Baring ‘ 39, Armstrong not out 45, Ransford not out 54. -The day was fine and the wicket good. For the home team Pellew and Steele were sound and Whitty was dashing, otherwise South Australia were weak. The Victorians took toll of the somewhat weak bowling, and kept the field busy. Park was dashing and forceful. Ransford and Armstrong were in excellent form. ENGLISH TEAM AT PERTH. PERH, Oct. 31. The Englishmen opened their tour with a one-day match against Wcstralia. The weather was fine and the attendance ten - thousand. England lost eight wickets for 276 and declared —Hobbs 83, Makepeace 117, Hendren 61, Parkin not out 19, Westralia lost 7 for 119—Christian Jll, Randall 27, Howard not out 33. Parkin took two wickets for 22, Fender 3 for 32. The visitors showed they had profited by a few days’ practice on the quarantine ground, showing good form in all branches. Hobbs played beautiful cricket, and scored rapidly. Makepeace forced the pace and was brilliant, though marred by a couple of narrow escapes. Hendren proved fine on the leg side. Fender and Rhodes fell without scoring to Nurse, who captured five wickets for 82. IMLAY V. WAVBRLEY. On Saturday Imlay journeyed to Waverley to play the return match. Waverley batted first, hut were dismissed for 38 runs, the only double scorer being Bradmore with 11. Holland obtained 6 for 32 and Potter 4 for 16. Imlay then went to the wickets, but with 2 down for 21 the match was closed on account of rain. The Victoria Wanganui match was continued on Cook’s Gardens. Victoria had made 233 in their first innings. Wanganui, having 6 for 86, continued with Hyder and Stapleton. Hyder set- the pace and made-44 in good style, including a fine six, before he left. His departure was the beginning of the end which came at, 168, Stapleton carrying out his bat for 20. tyeggatt finished with the good bowling average of 5 for 62. Victoria won by 65 runs on thb first innings. Victoria went in for their second innings in a poor light. The score .had reached 112 runs for 3 wickets when rain put an end to the game. Gilberd took 6 wickets and Marsden 3. Technical College had 4 wickets down for 63 (Metson 26), when play was finished on account of rain.
