THE V.E.C. DERBY. MUCH BUMPING. SALITROS HAS EASY WIN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. Received November 1. 11 a.m. SIDNEY, November 1. ; The Herald, describing the Derby, states that it was very rough going rounding the first turn, and all the riders in the leading division eased up. There was much humping resulting in a consequent congestion. Erasmus and Syoe Knight were the chief sufferers. Salitros here went round the field and had a handy, lead at the mile nost. Ho led for the rest' of the journey, shaking off Syce Knight in the straight and Nautical’s good finishing ruix in the last furlong. Erasmus, after striking heaps of trouble, boldly dashed at the leader at, the top of tne straight,- 1 but uetered out. Syce Knight ran well, but . weakened consider ably over the last sixty yards. Tho Telegarph says that Salitros at no stage had a hard race or looked like being beaten. He went to the front at the bridge, and was galloping great guns when the straight was entered, winning, on the bit by three lengths. The Telegraph’s special representative says the race was cue of the roughest on record, and several horses, notably Erasmus, experienced a bad time. There was much bustling for positions before the first and worst turn was reached. Bound the corner Salitros was sorely crowded, inducing Connell to fall back almost last. A futlong later theio was a lot of roughing, apparently accidental, but sufficient to throw several out of their strides. Connell shot Salitros to the front at the hack of the course, where he remained to the end of the journey.
