WEir FOR DAMAGES. ■■ SYDNEY/ August 27._ Mr Ashford, ex-Manster for Lands, has issued a writ churning A2COO damages for alleged slander from Mr Clark, member of the Assembly for Wammerawa, in connection with the soldier settlements. AN INQUIRY. SYDNEY, August 27. At the soldiers’ settlement inquiry, yesterday’s witness was further examined. He disdained any intention of inferring in connection with th 6 repairs to Mr Ashford’s house that any Government property had been im properly used thereon, but he, under instructions, while employed on soldiers’ settlements, supervised the work and another officer of the settlements branch worked at the repairs.
