MINING TROUBLE.

(Per United Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, August 26. The State miners’ union met at Runanga to-night to consider the disputes existing at Taratu, Green Island, and Mataura mines, and expressed regret that the Government did not bring pressure to bear on the coal owners at the respective places to have them adhere to last February’s national agreement, as the Miners’ Federation executive has endeavoured to persuade them to do. It was decided in view of the failure to move in the direction indicated, that on Monday at 10 a.m. a stop-work meeting of the union be held to discuss what future action should be taken. It is understood all the other coal miners’ unions in the Dominion will do likewise, the result of which meetings may have a far-reaching effect.
