FIERCE HURRICANE

CAUSES DAMAGE TO FREEZING WORKS. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, August 26. A fierce hurricane, lasting over an hour, was experienced at midnight at Hicks’ Bay. Considerable damage was caused to the construction of works in connection with the Hicks’ Bay Freezing Works. The Freezing Works block was razed to the ground; trees were also uprooted and damage was done to the postmaster’s residence. The Freezing Works’ block had three walls completed ready for the roof, and the western end of the building was open, receiving the full force of the hurricane. Tire damage involves a delay of two to three months in the comnletion of the works.
