SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS
(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 26, The Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants decided to increase the grant to the university cob leges at Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin to ,£IOO each for one year. It was decided that applications for exemption by returned soldiers in connection with examinations must be lodged by March 31st next. ft was also resolved to ask the Government to amend the Companies' Act on the lines of the English Act-, providing that an auditor other than a retiring auditor cannot be appointed without fourteen days’ notice, also inflicting a penalty "if a balance-sheet is circulated without the auditor’s report. It was decided that the present system of contribution to the Society's benevolent fund is inequitable, and that steps be taken to re-arrange subscriptions and allot certain portions to the benevolent fund. The following were re-elected to tho Council unopposed: Messrs S. G.'Chambers (Auckland), W. McCulloch (Hawke’s Bay), Peter Barr (Otago) and F. Webb (Southland). Mr Walter Green (Dunedin) was elected president for the ensuing year and Air G. W. Hutchison (Auckland) vice-president.
