In view of the coal shortage it will probably interest readers to learn of tire quantity of coal consumed in Wanganui over a given period. For the last six months, from February to July, just a little over 14,600 tons were imported into Wanganui, either by rail or by steamer. There were 6506 tons sent in by rail and 7585 by steamer. These latter figures do not include all the coal taken by the Gasworks, which on an average imports 1000 tons per month.
