WANGANUI PIPE BAND
SCOTTISH FAIR, ART UNION, AND CLAN GATHERING. A number of gentlemen interested in the local Pipe Band recently met to coi sidev ways and means- of placing the Band on a proper footing, with a view to increasing it in numbers and proadding the necessary uniforms and instruments, anl securing a competent pipe major. It was decided that arrangements be made for the holding of a grand Scottish fair, art union, and clan carnival for ten days, commencing on November 17tb. Mr Alan Sutherland, of Invercargill, has been engaged as manager and organiser, and the following gentlemen constitute the executive committee: Messrs R, G. McNiven, N. Mackenzie Forbes, T. M. Copeland, J. Driver, Jas. Patterson, J. -i. Swan, W. G. Hirst, S. R. McCallum, R. 3. Glasgow, and 3. H- McLean, the secretory being Mr Lachlan McMillan. Mr Sutherland will arrive in Wanganui on Friday, September 17, to commence teaching Highland and other dances for the occasion. Thirty-two girls will be required* to complete the programme, ranging from 10 to 20 years. Quite a lot of support has been ottered, and every day brings forth offers of more support, and the function promises to be one of the best ever held in the Dominion. The art union tickets will be on sale shortly, and the prizes offered should commend a ready sale.' A beautiful gold nugget and four oil paintings are to be awarded to the winners. Anyone wishing to assist or in anV - way interested in the Band should communicate with the secretary, Mr Lachlan McMillan, Box 8, St. John’s, Wanganui, from whom all information can be bad.
