RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD
QUESTIONS FOR THE DEPARTMENT. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN. August 2-5. At a sitting of the Railway Appeal Board, the secretary read a statement by tho Board concerning tho refusal of the Department to produce certain stair reports stating that tho real question at issue had not been referred to the Solicitor-General, whose opinion was guiding tho Department. The Beard again asks for a statement of tho attitude which the Department proposes to adopt- to the following questions;—(l) When the Department seeks to load evidence as to th e contents of an officer’s H. 69 staff report, does it decline to produce such report? (2) When an appellant in cross-exam-ination of a district officer seeks to edicit tlie contents of such an officer’s H. 39 report on him, docs it decline to produce such report ?” The memorandum will be referred to the General Manager for his decision.
