A LAD DROWNED

LOST FROM A BARGE. DARGAVILLE, August 24.' A lad 15 years of age named Arthuf Ernest Swenson, son of Mrs Swenson, of Rnawai boardinghouse, was drowned in the Wairoa River at Rnawai yesterday. It appears that some cattle were being towed across the river in a barge, and the boy asked permission to go across, which was given. When halfway over the cattle broke down the- barricade, and some of them fell into the river with the boy. The men jumped in and attempted to rescue the boy, but could only get within six feet of him when he sank. He was never seen again. Constable Clark and a party have been searching for the body ever since, and have not found it yet.
