TURMOIL AMONG NATIONS.
ASCRIBED TO FEVER ON THE SUN. PARIS, July 3. M. Flammaricn, the famous French astronomer, was quoted recently in a Paris newspaper as ascribing the present turmoil among nations as the result of a ‘‘fever” on the sun. Ho said: “Tho sun is displaying a prodigious activity at this moment. It is in fever, and this fever has a ; e percussion on the earth and an influence on the brains of men.” The astronomer said further he was convinced interstellar communication would lie accomplished, though he believes it will not be brought about by light rays, but by some as yet concealed inagnitic force. Referring to Marconi's attempts to solve the wireless mysteries which have been thought to have origin on the planet Mars, Flammarion is of the opinion these mysterious signals may be interpreted. He quotes Leon Dalvy, French wireless expert, as having writ ten him: “The signals heard are not Iho usual irregular jumble of atmospherics announcing far-away storms. The signals heard are precise, and regular, as if they were intentionally given, and are essentially different from the storm interceptions which arc without mv order or connection.” M. Flammarion says if the signals heard seem to be intentionally given they cannot he connected with magnetic soalr storms for which the year 1919 was distinctive and which he had thought might account for the wire less disturbances.
