THE MUERAF VACANCY. Received August 23, 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, August 23. The Government’s intentions respecting the Murray vacancy in the State Assembly are causing interest in political cncles. In the absence of machinery to conduct bye-clections, the Progressives contend they are entitled to fill Mr Beeby’s scat. It is stated the Government favours introducing legislation providing that the runner-up at the general election shall fill a vacancy in all cases of bye-elections. The Murray runner-up is a Labour candidate, who, if elected, will definitely assure the Government of a majority. No action is likely until ihe censure motion is finished.
