THE LEAGUE GAME. ENGLAND DEFEAT'S CANTERBURY. (I’er United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 9. Tho League match, England v. Canterbury, played to-day, was won by the visitors by 29 points to 14. The ground was in much better order than cn Saturday, and tho display of football was infinitely superior. The English combination was excellent. Canterbury mado a good showing, and though beaten were not disgraced. The attendance was only about 1500. THE RUGBY GAME. WELLINGTON (10) V. King COUNTRY (3). TAUMARUNUI, August 9. The Wollingtdn Rugby representatives defeated King Country here to-day by 10 points to 3. The weather was fine and tho ground in good condition.. There was an attendance of 4000. Wellington gave a good exhibition of back play in the first spell, but King Country’s defence was sound. M. Nicholls, in a passing rash, cut in and scored, and converted. Wellington 5, King Country 0. From forward play following on a passing lush, Real scored. Wellington 5, King Country 3. Calcinai eluded the defence and scored, 11. Nicholls converting. Wellington 10, King Country 3. No score was made in the second spell, which favoured King Country, who crossed the Wellington lino twice, but failed to score.
