STATE MINES IDLED
(Per United Press Association.) GPLYMOUTH, August 9. Tho State mines were idle to-day on account of miners’ dissatisfaction ovep the train service. At a stop-work meeting to-day, the men, after considering Departmental reports, decided, unanimously that until better travelling facilities are provided they would refuss to continue to work. The executive of the Miners’ Union subsequently met the Lnder-Secretary of Mines (Mr Kirabelli along with mine managers and discussed tho grievances, but the latterstated that no final settlement was possible until tiie Railway Department was consulted. The miner's say the dispute is with that Department and; not the Mines Department. The miners’ reprtsentatives contend, that the men are anxious for a settlement, but the miners are unanimously against resuming work until an assurance is given that travelling facilities will bo adjusted to enable them to get to and from work without delay and inconvenience caused them by the existing arrangements. It is impossible to say when the mines will resume as the men stand firm as the result of tho failure of less extreme measures to secure adjustment. The stoppage means a, loss of 800 tons of coal daily.
