A curious prosecution is proceeding of six Newcastle food officials, charged with wasting 1325 carcases of Australian meat received in July, 1919, which were unreasonably retained until September, when they were unfit for food. The accused include the local Live Stock Commissioner, the Area Meat Agent, and members of the Meat Distribution Committee under the Pood Controller. The case has been adjourned, INFORMATION DISMISSED. Received February 10, 12.30 p.m. LONDON. Feb. 8. The Newcastle Magistrate’s dismissed the case against the Live stock Commissioner and others. The defence argued that the committees* only power over frozen stores consisted of releasing them when there was a shortage of live stock. _ V MORE SHIPPING CONGESTION. Received February 10, 12.30 p.m. LONDON,'Feb. 8. The congestion at the docks is unabated. There are 210 vessels at present in the port of London, while 15, aggregating 62,000 tons, are in the river awaiting an opportunity to enter dock.
