SUCCESSFUL CONCERT.
The day’s festivities concluded with a Scotch concert in the Opera House in the evening. There was a packed audience, and the concert proved very enjoyable, the programme being one of the finest ever put on by the Society, and included the following items; “God Save the King”; overture, Scotch Airs, Orchestra; danoe. Highland Reel, Champions; song “Bonnie Dundee,” Mr Farquhar Young; song, “Battle of Stirling,” Miss Thyra Harrison; dance. Toe Dance, and Spanish Dance, by Miss Thelma McKenzie; song, “Caller On,” Mrs Farquhar Young; comic “Killiecrankie,” Master X. Grieve; duet, “I’m Thinkin’,” Mr and Mrs Farquhar Young; dance, Sword, Champion (Miss M-. Thom); selection, Wanganui Pipe Band (under Pipe-Major Haddow); overture, “Gems of Scotland,” orchestra; song, “The Anld Scotch Songs,” Mrs Farquhar Young; song, “March of the Cameron Men,” Mr Farquhar Young; comic, “The Reason Noo I wear the Kilt,” Master X. Grieve; song, “Angus McDonald,,” Miss Tbyra Harrison; duct, Selected, Mr and Mrs Farquhar Young; dance, Reel, Xuvenile Champions. Mr and Mrs Faxquahar Young weer in splendid voice, and their items were greatly appreciated; Miss Thelma McKenzie’s clever dancing delighted the audienoe, while Master Grieve scored a big hit with comic songs, which were a feature of the entertainment. He was accorded ovations for his singing. Tire accompanists, Miss Ruby Turvey and Mr Olliver, assisted materially .towards the success of the concert, and Mr W. Herd, the stage manager, must be complemented on the excellence of the arrangements.
