PAISLEY BY-ELECTION.

WOMEN TAKING PART.

MR ASQUITH THE FAVOURITE,

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association,

Received January 31, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, January 29,

Women are taking an important part in the Paisley election. Lady Bonham Carter’s success as a speaker has induced other candidates to seek -women’s aid. Lady Astor assists Mr MacKeau, and the Countess of Warwick and Mrs Pethick Lawrence helps Mr Biggar. The odds are regarded as four to one on Mr Asquith, but it is genearlly believed that these figures exaggerate Mr Asquith’s prospects. Mr Biggar’s supporter s are confident that the Socialists will not contest the seat.
