CARNIVAL SECRETARY PINED

(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 30,

Leslie Robert Jones, organiser and secretary of the Lyall Bay carnival, hold last month, was charged before Mr Page, S.M., to-day with (1) having advertised has intention to dispose of watches, costumes, furniture, etc., amongst divers persons by means of a device whereby such property was to be divided or allotted by chance; (2) with having established a scheme by which prizes of money and goods were to be gained by mode of chance. Defendant's counsel admitted a technical breach. A fine of J6l and costa was imposed on each charge. It was stated in the Court that the carnival was a finamhkl failure.
