MANAWATU GORGE ROAD.

BOARD OF CONTROL MEETING,

(Per United Press Association.) WOODVILLB, January 28. The first meeting of the newly-con-stituted Board of Control of the Manawatu Gorge Road was held to-day, these present including Messrs N. Nash (Palmerston North Borough), H. Cornelius (Pahiatua County and Borough), J. Liuklafcer (Eairanga County), Hugh Burrell (Oroua and Rangitikei Counties and Fielding Borough), H. P. Horne (Woodvillo Borough and County), and R. S. Shadwick (Dannevirke Borough, and County and the Waipawa County). Mr Nash was elected chairman. The following resolution was passed: That the headquarters be Palmerston North, a temporary appointment of clerk to be, left to the chairman, that Mr Jickill (Palmerston North) be engaged to cany out repairs to the Gorge bridge on the ten per cent, basis, and also to prepare a comprehensive report for improvements ; that the Minister of Public Works Ire asked to give pound for pound authority subsidy for bridge. The financial arrangements were left to the chairman and Mr Linkiater.
