WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION
As it was understood that the New Zealand War Contingent Association was bringing its activities to a close with a substantial balance in hand, the Returned Soldiers’ Association (British Section) made an application to the ■association for a grant from its suridns to assist in running its rooms in London during the corning year. An office has been established in Chancery Lane, through the energy of Mr J. 1. I ox, and-for the next few months two rooms will be available in the same building where discharged Now Zealand soldiers who happen to be in London may moot and read their newspapers. It will, in fact, bo a small club for them. . Ab tlle final meeting of the War Contingent Association, held at the High Commissioner’s office, Mr J. H. B. Coates mentioned that the association was winding up with a balance of about .£922. This money is, to be forwarded to the New Zealand Government. An application was received on behalf of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, but in the circumstances the committee did not see its way to make any recommendation. 'the money, it was oonsidi ered, belonged to public funds, and as i the duties of the committee were now practically over, it was handing the balance back to the Government.
