AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY", January 25. In the Singles, Lowe beat Jordan; Beamish beat Peach; Anderson beat Neil; Marsh beat Thomas. In the Doubles, Anderson and Lowe beat Jordan and Oryan. In the Singles, Patterson, who was sintering from an injured arm, lost two sets to Taylor (Adelaide). The latter then retired, as he was compelled to return home. Subsequently it was announced that Patterson had retired from the tournament. Brookes was also unable to play further in the Double.

At a dinner to the tennis representatives, Mr Colquohoun (president of the Australian Association) paid a tribute to the Britishers’ sportsmanlike spirit in accepting defeat in the Davis Cup. He made reference to Anthony Wilding as one of those who laid the foundation of success of Australian tennis.
