DEFENCE OF THE EMPIRE
PROPOSED IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF. Australian and N.Z. Gable Association. LONDON, November 14. The Army Committee of the House of Commons memoralised the Premier urging the organisation of an Imperial general staff apart from the War Office, with a central body in London, and branches in various .parts of the Empire. The Committee points out that the Imperial Conference of 1917 approved a central body for Imperial defence, with branches overseas. The Committee' consider the General Staff should be removed from the War Office in order to free it from administrative details, also that the central body should advise the Imperial Council on land, sea, and air defence, and guide local branches on general principles, leaving to’ branches the local application thereof.
