BOARD OF EDUCATION.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Board of Education was held last night, Mr F. Pirani presiding. There were also present—Messrs Hemmingway, Mclntyre, Pilkingtou, Freeth, Joblin, Bruce, Collins, and Fraser.

_ RESIGNATIONS.—The following resignations were accepted: D. A. Syme, solo teacher, Rongoiti; E, M. Steele, sole teacher, Burnside; M. E. Horner, sola teacher. Woodlands; N. Mitchell, sole teacher, Mangawhio; H. Henderson, special assistant, Taihape D.R.S.; J. D. Eoulston, special assistant, Huntervillo D.R.S.; E. H. Dons, assistant. Terrace End; H. Goldsbury, acting assistant, Victoria Avenue; 0. L. Brown, assistant, Foxton; M. A. Collins, assistant, Foxton; E. Blair, assistant, Mannmii; R. Meads, assistant, Bunnythorpe; M. Herd, assistant, Maugaweka, operative from November Ist.; G. H. Maxwell, assistant, Aram oho; L. Letter, assistant, Kakahi; J. J. Parkinson, head teacher. Upper Tmtaenni; C. A. Laioli, sole teacher. Table Flat; 'and A- Collins, teacher, Hiwi Household School.

APPOINTMENTS. The following are the results of offers of appointments and transfers made by the Board at last meeting;— Accepted (not yet confirmed by the Board): Hikimutu, sole teacher, Mr A. B. Earns; Opaku, sole teacher, Mr G. D. Smith; Raumai, sole teacher, Mrs E. Thomas; Rangataua. head teacher, Mr P. G. Lewis; Bongotea, first assistant, Mrs Ball-Guymer; Pei'ding District. High School, seventh assistant, Miss T. Fowler; Terrace End, tenth assistant. Miss N. R. Shaw; Wanganui East, seventh assistant, Miss E. Wheal; Porewa, sole teacher, Mrs G. Craven. OTHER BUSINESS. Re the acquisition of new site at Castlecliff, the Board are negotiating for further site. Maxwelltown were granted £5 per annum for rent for paddock for additional playground purposes. The Board approved the architect’s report regarding the drainage of Marten District High and the work was authorised. The Education Department wrote advising the establishment of classes for backward children, and the chief inspector reported it was intended to have a room for backward children provided in the new school at Queen’s Park. Re tables and chairs for the Fcilding District High School, the chairman and Mr Mclntyre were empowered to deal with the application. The Returning Officer at Hawera wrote applying for the use of the school at Hawera for polling booths at the general election.—Granted on the usual terms.
