PATEA MAYOR'S PRIZE.
ONE COUNCILLOR AFTER IT. HOiV TO DEAL WITH WANDERING STOCK NUISANCES,. The Mayor of Patea is evidently determined to find out the best means of dealing with the menace caused to pedestrians at night by wandering stock. At the ordinary meeting of the Patea Borough Council, he said that he was going to offer a prize te the Councillor offering a solution to the wandering stock nuisance. Personally, he thought ratepayers should assist by giving the names of owners of stock found wandering. If they would do this, the police would take action. - Cr. Harrison B aid he was out after the prize. They had a horse in hi* street that lifted the latches of gates and entered people's gardens . Personally he felt that the Council as a body should take the matter of wandering stock in hand and deal with it in * firm manner. Cr. Cronin said the subject vm rather a pet one of his. It semed to him that the people were rather shy of pounding cattle. It would be a good idea te instruct the Borough employees te impound any stock wandering on the streets. Cr Williams said he had spoken te the police about the stock nuisance, and he had offered te assist the Council by every means in his power. H« would suggest that the foreman and his assistant be instructed te impound all stock wandering on the etreete. After further discussion, it was unanimously decided that this course be followed. Cr. Davis brought forward (.he question of cycle-riding on the footpath*. He asked that some steps be taken te put a step te the nuisance. ■ was decided te draw the attention of the police te the matter, with in>strnctions that a full penalty be applied for. ,
