LAND FOR SOLDIERS.

WHAKATANE SOLDIERS’ PROTEST. WHAKATANE, June 4. Much indignation at tlie delay in settling soldiers on the land was expressed at the Whakatane County Returned Soldiers’ Association re-umon, at which about 100 were present. Mr M. Douglas complained that although the Woodlands Estate, - Opotiki, was ready, no soldiers were being settled there yet. Mr W. C. Roberts, president of the Whakatane Agricultural Association, said the Government appeared to be tied hand and foot by red tape. He advocated local boards for settling soldiers on the land. It was resolved: “This meeting stroAgly urges upon the Government the necessity of quickly opening up the vari-

ous lands m this country for settling returned soldiers.”
