Glorious weather favoured the reception of the East Coast section of the Pioneer Battalion, which arrived by the Mapourika from Auckland this morning, accompanied by the Defence Minister and Sir James Carroll., The town was gay with bunting, and large crowds assembled to greet the returned warriors, who marched through the streets and entrained for the park, where a big native assemblage, attended by representatives of the various tribes in the North Island, is being held. The men were received Avith war dances, amidst great enthusiasm. The proceedings subsequently, ao cording to Maori custorp, developed into a tangi for those who had failed to return.
