RETURNED SOLDIERS.
To The Editor. Sir,—ln reply to “Worried,” re returned soldiers, and what they expect from a grateful country, and about getting fed, paid, clothed, etc., a great many of these are coming back completely broken down in many ways, and certainly expect some assistance, especially when so much has been donated by the public for that purpose. A great many of these men went away without being forced by conscription, and, having the luck to get back again, surely they are entitled to consideration. They threw np their positions and everything else to protect that grateful country, as “Worried’' calls it, and they are only asking for their own. I think “Worried” can easily be summed up. He either got out of it by old age or some infirmity, or beat the doctors by what soldiers call professional leadswinging, and, having done so, I daresay he is one of those who has made a small fortune out of it with the high prices of things in general that are going by exploiting the dependents of those who were left behind, when he talks about the country being on the verge of starvation. I will leave it to anyone to judge that what he says is all rot. It is a pity he did not have a bit of it, and then he might he. entitled to style himself “Worried.”—l am, etc., A COMMON DIGGER.
