WAR WORK
MONEY FOR MINE-SWEEPERS. TO-MORROW’S EFFORT. Our mine-sweepers have done noble work, and the Wanganui branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union have realised this. Consequently a sale of work has been organised to gain money for the men of the minesweepers. This affair will he held in St. Paul’s Hall to-morrow, commencing at 2.30 p.m. Stalls have been arranged for produce, cakes, sweets, plain and fancy work, also refreshments. A capital musical programme has been arranged for the evening. Admission during the afternoon will be free, and a silver coin will be charged in the evening. GONYILLE DAY. In connection with Gonville Ray at the Patriotic Red Cross Shop, the following competitions are announced: Sponge sandwich, shortbread, gingerbread, billy bread, biscuits, sausage rolls, jam tarts. Entry is free. All entries become the property of the committee, and will be sold at the shop for the benefit of the Red Cross. A large number of ladies were present at a “gift afternoon” hold at Mr G. G. Bullock’s residence, yesterday afternoon, when a good collection of gifts was handed to the ladies’ committee to' he sold on Gonville Day, The following ladies acted as hcvtesecs: Mesdames Sykes, Williams. Jones, Rice, Bullock, Warnock, and Hay.
