WAR WORK.
The model military tank, which was a feature of the gala at Cook's Gardens, was on view at the Patriotic Red Croea Shop yesterday afternoon and evening. During the evening the Queen's Park Bugle Band played outside the shop. The competition for the nearest guess ats to the number of rivete and pieces of wood in the tank was won by Mrs E. Connell, St. John's Hill, who may obtain her prize on applying to Mrs Suistcd. The tank will continue on exhibition, and each evening there will be a mv.sical programme, the Garrison Band playing this evening (falling in attho band-room at 7.30>, the Salvation Army Band to-morrow evening, and the Q.A.O. Band on Saturday evening. EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. In connection with "Our Day," Mrs F. J. Walker ha« arranged a euchre party and dance, to be held in the Wanganu East Town Hall on Friday evening next. Dancing will commence at 10.30. PATRIOTIC RED CROSS SHOP. "GONVILLE DAY" TO-MORROW. Some very attractive novelties will be on sale at the Patriotic Red Cro:3s Shop to-morrow (Friday), which will be "Gohville Day," the .shop being in charge of Mesdames Webb-Jones and Rice, assisted by other Gouvjlle ladies. One feature -will be shilling surprise b»g«, containing many gocd, and in some instances valuable prizes, the quality of which makes them well worth ©aeking for. Nor are the "kiddies" forgotten, for there will he a special line of sixpenny surprise bags for them, some of which hold some really capital toys. Another specialty will be a novelty stall, in which every article will be made of sugar-bag material. Seme splendid articles have been worked up out of this, among which may be mentioned slippers, cosies, cushions, bags for all household purposes, and other tweful or ornamental articles. This line is a very good one, and ought to 6ell like the proverbial hot cakes. There will also be competitions for an iced cake, a block of scap, and other goods, and in addition the usual lines of home-made cooking, meat, produce, flowers, etc., will be on sale. Business begins at 10 a.m. -
