AMUSEMENTS AND MEETINGS

THE GRAND. A WONT>BRFUL PICTURE. Wanganui picture patrons will have the opportunity to-night of seeing two of the most widely and popularly known dancers and artists in the personages of Maurice and Florence Walton, who will appear in the film, "The Quest of Life," which is described as the novelty kit of the season. The celebrated Apache dance, which is reproduced in "The Quest of Life," was created by Maurice after he had seen the crude performance in Paris. The picture itself is wonderful, containing big dramatic moments, from which is developed a little tragedy, a great deal of romance, and in the end happiness. The supporting pictures will include a.complete tour of the island of Jamaica; "Her Boy/' a complete domestic drama; the Australian Picture News shows review of reinforcements, the Adelaide dog show, and the children's schools' annual display. The attraction for Thursday will be "Peg o' the Ring.' To secure this picture several of the largest circuses were visited, and many of the most daring acts and thrilling spectacles enacted in America to-day are faithfully portrayed in this series, taken from real life. Patrons to-night should be seated at 7 p.m. sharp.

There was a large representative gathering in the Wa-nganui East Presbyterian Church on Friday evening to bid -God-speed to two of its membersErnie Owen and Frank Dabinett, who are now on final leave. The proceedings were most enthusiastic throughout. A scratch programme was provided, to which the following contributed: Miss Potter (Dannevirke) Messrs Marshall, Humphrey, Johnson, Duxfield and Jack Kilgour, also the choir. In making a presentation of a wristlet watch to E. Owen and a kodak pocket camera to P. Dabinett, the Ke-v. G. W. Blair wished the lads God's blessing, and also said it was tha earnet prayer of all that they might be preerved amid the dangers to which they were going, and be brought back again in safety. The recipients returned thanks, after which Messrs Duxfield and Humphrey spoke. Supper was then handed round, and a pleasant evening was concluded by singing tbx» National Anthem. A similar function was held three weeks ago in the same church to bid good-bye to Sergt. W. H. Johnston, N.Z.M.C. the church organist. Four members of the Eastown choir have now gone, besides a large number of other members.
