AMUSEMENTS AND MEETINGS

HIS MAJESTY'S. "BILLIE BURKE" AND "SOMEr WHERE IN FRANCE/' Miss Billie Burke, one of the highest salaried women of the stage, wfoose recent success in "Peggy" is still fresh, will make her re-appearance on the screen at His Majesty's Theatre tonight. Those who see her in the fine photo-play serial "Gloria's Romance," commencing to-night, will be made to realise 4iow it is possible for a woman to make those she wishes both hate her enemies and love her friends. The first episode, "Lost in the Everglades," introduces Billie Burke as Gloria Stafford (daughter of Pierpont Stafford, millionaire banker), and sister of Stafford, who goes to Palm Beach, Fla, wit«h her family to spend the winter. There they meet Judge Freeman and his daugh ter, Lois, old friends of the Stafford*}, and Gloria is introduced to Dr Stephen Royce, a good-looking young physician, who is attending Judge Freeman. David Stafford grows to admire Lois Freeman, but finds he has a rival in the person of Richard hraneau, a young broker, who strikes up an acquaintanceship with both the Freeman and Stafford families. Thereon is based a story of absorbing interest. Richard Harding Davis, the famous American war correspondent, will always be remembered for his eloquent appeal to his fellow-countrymen over Germany's treatment of ike Belgian population. "Somewhere in France," screening at His Majesty's tonight, is the product of his pen, and is a brilliant film drama based on the ingenious German spy system. A fine Pathe Gazette is also included. To mark the first production of "Gloria's Romance," featuring Billie Burke, the management will present to each lady patron a handsome toned postcard portrait of Billie Bourke. Intending patrons are strongly advised to book their seats at Upton's Music Warehouse. EVERYBODY'S. "THE WAGER" AND "THE* MASQUERAD'ERS." Another very lengthy and superior programme has been secured for th© change to-day, headed by a marvellous detective drama, "The Wager." The picture is a Metro production, and features that great emotional artist, Miss Emily Steven*. In "The Wager" Mies Stevens depicts the character of the smartest female "crook" in New York, whom the police have been tracking for some time, mainly for clever diamond robberies, but have failed to convict her. There is a big idea in the picture—a woman for love's sake fighting both with and against the law. Miss Stevens considers the role of "Diamond Daisy" the strongest she has yet had in motion pictures. The character is one that arouses a deep feeling of sympathy. Another star feature will be the Famous Players' production, "The Masqueradters," starring Hazel Dawn and Elliot Dexter. There are many excellent supports, including the beautiful Metro travelog, a Metro dramacomedy, and the latest Eclair Journal.
